Uses Prevacid is used to treat ulcers, reflux disease (GERD), or Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Your doctor may also prescribe Prevacid to treat other conditions as well. Directions Follow the directions given to you by your doctor or pharmacist. It is best to take Prevacid before eating. Swallow the Prevacid capsule whole with water and do not crush or chew before swallowing. Take Prevacid in the morning at the same time every day, unless your doctor as told you otherwise Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses. For emergencies, seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center. Storage Store Prevacid at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Cautions If you are taking Prevacid, before taking any new prescription or over-the-counter medicine, check with your doctor, nurse or pharmacist. Because of possible dizziness, caution should be exercised when driving or performing other potentially dangerous activities. If your are, or plan on becoming pregnant, talk to your doctor about the risks versus the benefits of using Prevacid during your pregnancy. For nursing mothers, it is unknown whether or not Prevacid is excreted in breast milk. It is advised to avoid Prevacid, or refrain from nursing while taking Prevacid. Interactions Antacids slow the amount of Prevacid that gets in your body. Clarithromycin (Biaxin) may lead to a blackening of the tongue. If your are taking ritonavir (Norvir), sucralfate (Carafate), or theophylline (Theo-Dur, others), talk to your doctor or pharmacist about possible interactions with Prevacid. Side Effects Side effects of Prevacid may include rash, cough, headache, dizziness, or diarrhea
